Swahili, or Kiswahili, is the most widely spoken language in East Afria. Whether Kenya, Tanzania or Zanzibar - the second most common language in East Africa is Swahili. The language is easy to learn, as spelling and pronounciation rules are quite straightforward, and the language is written in Latin script. Once you catch on to it, you will also master the grammar without any problem.

You will not only learn the language, but also get an insight into the political and economic situation as well as the history and culture of East Africa.

  Who can benefit from Swahili?

Knowing some Swahili is definitely an advantage for anybody traveling to East Africa. Whether you are a tourist or a business person, an aid worker or a student - a few words in Swahili will open up the hearts of the people you meet. You find it much easier to come into contact with the local population, to get to know the country from a different perspective and to take away some unique personal experiences.

  Where can I learn Swahili?

For beginners we recommend the Swahili language course taught at Volkshochschule Schweinfurt (Volkshochschule = Open University, evening school) by Hassan Abdalla from A.T.T. Center. You can sign up directly on the VHS homepage.

Alternatively, we offer tailored Swahili lessons for individuals or small groups. The price and content of the lessons depends on the number of participants and the intended duration of the lessons, among other factors. Please ask us for further details or send your enquiry online.
